Backyard Chicken Coops are a popular pastime in the Charlotte area. The raising of the backyard chickens has flourished with the rise of green food trends and the growing desire to know where your food comes from. Plus, the benefits of having a coop of happy hens in your backyard goes beyond just fresh eggs: they eat pests, provide hours of delight and enjoyment, and are even used in Autism therapy for their calming effect.
The Queens Coop Tour will take place on Saturday, March 30, at participating coops. Come out and see how your Charlotte neighbors have set up living spaces for their backyard chickens. Maps for the self-guided tour can be picked up at the store on March 30 after 10:00am for a $10 donation.
Classes are scheduled for Friday, March 29, in the evening, and Saturday, March 30, as needed. The classes will cover nutrition for your chicks and chickens as well as best practices for raising your brood. The classes have always been full and are a great source of question and answer sessions for chicken coop owners of all levels of experience. A $10 donation will reserve your space, and can be purchased starting March 1.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Pet Harvest Food Bank.
