Letter from the Editor

Working with NoDa News has connected me to this neighborhood in ways that no other job could have. I have had opportunities to interview amazing individuals who have shaped this community, to be involved in events that have helped define our values, and to support the locally owned businesses that give NoDa its unique identity.

Ariel Perry Photography

In high school, Ariel Perry wanted to take a photography elective but couldn’t fit it in because of her graduation tract. So her first semester at Temple University, she enrolled in Photography. “And my teacher was an asshole,” she grinned. After their first class critique, he point blank told her, “I don’t think it’s for…

Through innovative and comprehensive plans, they pursue their mission to “keep kids out of jail and families…

Marie Walker and the Gift of Art

Can NoDa be the arts district without galleries? If NoDa is Charlotte’s arts district, then where are all the artists? Her portrait of the difficult friendship between two women of contrasting generations is both generous and wise.” – Christopher Bram, author of Gods…

Take a Walk. Take in Art.

NoDa.org has a new look. You may have wondered why. Well, it’s a long story, full of international sabotage, backdoor exploitation, and frustrating email correspondence that I’m not going to tell here, but it has a happy ending. “In fall 2018, the site was hacked and we decided to just start from scratch,” recalls Nicole…

Mac Tabby, Charlotte’s cat café, is re-opening this month at its new location at 3204 N. Davidson Street, on the 2nd floor across from Curio, Craft & Conjure. “Almost two years ago, I stood feet away from what is now our entrance and said to my broker, ‘I don’t know when, but we WILL wind up on…
