WHO Claudia Borgna, Summer Artist-in-Residence at McColl Center for Visual Art.
Join us as McColl Center Artist-in-Residence Claudia Borgna unveils her site-specific outdoor installation at the McGill Rose Garden in conjunction with the NoDa gallery crawl.
Borgna manipulates an everyday element of the modern consumerist lifestylethe plastic bagto investigate what she calls the evolution of landscape. She believes that this shift results from the integration of mans trash into the natural environment. Borgna twists, ties, and sculpts the plastic bags into masses that evoke both mass production and organic growth. She forms her work as an argument between the natural and unnatural worlds: as a manufactured artifact of consumerism, but also as a natural product of human creation.
Borgna works in Studio 218 at McColl Center for Visual Art. She is a summer artist-in-residence through August 25, 2008. The Center is free and open to the public Monday- Saturday from 11am-4pm.
McColl Center for Visual Art is an artists residency program and gallery dedicated to promoting contemporary art and supporting artists regionally, nationally, and internationally. The Centers goal is to present art and artists in a way that engages and enriches the public while revealing the creative process through open studios, outreaches, community projects, and educational programs. The gallery is free and open to the public, Monday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. McColl Center for Visual Art is supported, in part, with a Basic Operating Grant from the Arts and Science Council as well as the North Carolina Arts Council with funding from the state of North Carolina and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art and the generosity of corporate and individual donors.
