Dialect Art Gallery

With an international client base and innovative perspective on European style architecture, Dialect is a design-build group founded by John Nourbakhsh and Toby Witte. Realizing their commitment to perpetuate the challenge and richness of artistry, and their desire to work in an artful space, Dialect is also a contemporary gallery space with a roster of 30+ artists. For over a year, monthly Dialect Night events have fostered a vibrant and informal gathering of spirited minds for the sole purpose of discussing the processes, work, and lives of many of Charlotte's creative artists.

NoDa School of Arts provides urban youth with performing and fine arts training that underscore their God-given talents and promotes excellence in the arts. there is no official beginning or end - it is not an organized parade of viewers. it is like a pub crawl, but instead of visiting only watering holes, participants meander at their leisure through a fine collection of galleries featuring original works in all mediums by artists at all stages of professional development. admission is free. parking on the street is free and $3 @ neighborhood theater lot. there is a printable map on the MAP PAGE. the center of NoDa is the corner of 36th and Davidson. you will find several restaurants and pubs, a deli, a cute coffee shop, a dog bar (humans welcome), wine bars, live music venues, a few boutiques and shops and several galleries all within a very few of blocks. and more on the other side of the RR tracks towards Tryon St.

Jason Basden, Storytime - 3D sculptures, also featuring paintings by Bracken Johnson and jewelery by Erica Shaver. Jason Basdens art is influenced by the Neolithic fertility sculptures and African art, and is inspired by story, myth, and his own imagination which places his subjects far over the cusp of reality and into the realm of the impossible.

A collective of North and South Carolina based potters known as Circle of Eight showcase their work. The group, actually only made up of seven potters, include Amy Sanders, Julie Wiggins, Jennifer Mecca, Ron Philbeck, Adrienne Dellinger, Greg Scott and Sandy Singletary. Lark & Key is excited to complete the circle with guest Diana Fayt, a San Francicso based ceramic artist. The Exhibit runs until Nov 2, 2008.

Friday, Oct. 3rd marks the opening reception of the work of Green Rice artist Kate Vasseur. "Nostalgia" will blend fantasy with elements of memories long forgotten, where images of a bygone era will color her canvas as much as her brush strokes do. The show will run from Oct. 3rd - Nov. 2nd.

Opening Nov. 7th, Holt McLean will display her new work in a timeless and traditional format. A talent for bringing lifelike light and color to traditional landscapes and still lifes gives the work of Holt McLean its own unique perspective. A love for traditional arts and working in oils plays a large role in McLean's art. Influenced by the great artists of the Renaissance and Impressionist periods, her work takes on a classic feel with a modern twist. Also featured will be the new work of emerging artist Carla Garrison. Garrisons work blends old world rustic with the fantastical, which lends an imaginative inquisition to what was previously forgotten. The show will run from Nov. 7th-30th.

WHAT: Steep Canyon Rangers -- Sweet By and By supports
WHERE: The Neighborhood Theatre
The Steep Canyon Rangers have carved out a special spot in the world of bluegrass music, creating a sound that looks forward and backwards at the same time. First formed in the stairwells and kitchens of Chapel Hill, NC, the Rangers arrive from varied musical backgrounds. On stage and in the studio, Woody Platt, Mike Guggino, Charles Humphrey, Nicky Sanders, and Graham Sharp have perfected their ensemble approach using fierce dynamics and seamless harmonies. The Rangers base their sound around a stunning catalog of original songs, drawing on the sounds of early bluegrass, honky tonk, and blues. After being named International Bluegrass Music Association's Emerging Artist of the Year in 2006 and having a #1 song on Bluegrass Unlimiteds National Bluegrass Survey, Steep Canyon Rangers come back to Charlotte again w/ their powerful acoustic sound.
